History
Walker & Campbell Optometrists has existed in Burnham High Street since 1987 and moved to their current premises in 1995. The practice is run by 3 partners, Mrs Awen Campbell, Mrs Tracy Leigh and Mrs Anne Hollands.
Awen Campbell
Awen Campbell graduated from City University in 1971. Following her pre-registration year at the Oxford Eye Hospital she worked in practices in London, Windsor and Slough before joining Betty Walker in Burnham in 1982 and became a partner in 1987.
Awen is a past treasurer of the Middle Thames Association of Optometrists and has been a member of Buckinghamshire Local Optical Committee for 25 years and is now chair of the Clinical Governance sub-committee.
Tracy Leigh
Tracy Leigh graduated from the University of Wales College of Cardiff in 1990. She then did her pre-registration training in Bristol and at the Bristol Eye Hospital. Tracy then gained valuable experience doing locum work in several independent practices and one the large Laser Eye Clinics. She joined Walker and Campbell in 1998 and became a partner in 2000. Tracy is a member of the Middle Thames Association of Optometrists, having previously been the Assistant Secretary for 4 years. She is married with 2 young children.
Anne Hollands
Anne Hollands qualified as an optician in 1980. She has gained a wealth of experience in all aspects of Ophthalmic Dispensing during this time, managing different types of practice from large city centre to small village locations.
Anne has a grown up family, which allows her time to follow her hobbies including sugar craft, supporting Liverpool Football Club and exercising dogs from a local rescue centre. Anne joined Awen and Tracy as a partner in November 2003 when Betty Walker retired, and she is an active committee member of Burnham High Street Association.
VAO
Here at Walker & Campbell we actively support the charity Vision Aid Overseas. The donations of second hand spectacles from members of the public that are left in our collection box are sorted and sent overseas with teams of volunteer optometrists and dispensing opticians helping those in the developing world who otherwise would have no access to eye test and corrective spectacles.
Mrs Campbell will be part of a volunteer team going to Malawi in May this year. This will be her 4th tour with VAO, previously going three times to Ghana.
